Pudu Chan Fatt Wantan Mee Shop in Uptown, Damansara Utama, PJ - The New Wonder?

Friday 14 July 2017.
Following yesterday’s Star write-up on Pudu Chan Fatt Wantan Mee shop in Uptown, Damansara Utama, PJ (located on the same street as the very popular Annie’s Menglembu wantan mee shop, and directly opposite the RHB Bank, Uptown), I decided to try its flavor for my afternoon lunch today.
The place is clean, not much crowds, as maybe still new.
I ordered:

1. 1 glass barley hot - @ RM2.20! – it came lukewarm, and not sweet enough!
2. 1 plate wantan mee dry (konlo) with char siew and sui kow. The sui kow – 2 pcs – came in a bowl of soup. Total RM8.50.
3. I ordered my usual 10 pcs wantan in soup and costs RM5.00 – (Yulek charges RM4.00/bowl for same!).
The noodle was not all that crunchy or fab, and the sauce was a tad sweet, and, somehow, not that syiok! According to their advertising blurb, the original owners made his own mouth-watering noodles eons ago, but this noodle today is sourced from outside – from a supplier Yee Kee!
At the price of RM8.50 per plate, the amount of char siew given by PCF, as shown in the photo below, is piddly small – against the amounts of char siew and siew yoke that Yulek dishes out - at only RM6.50 a plate - as the below photo also shows!
Moreover, Yulek’s char siew, siew yoke and the extremely popular roasted pai kuat (always sold out before noon!) are charbroiled daily at the back of their shop, and served daily as fresh, succulent, crunchy and really melt-in-the-mouth varieties!
Despite all the hype that Pudu Chan Fatt Wantan Mee is now back after a 21-year hiatus, to me, the taste is not there, the price not cheap – nowhere near Yulek’s in quality and quantity.
Inflasi and our banana currency is now so bad that wantan mee – at RM4-5.00 a bowl a year ago – is now RM8.50 and above – and my bet is still Yulek’s - since the hawkers' tendency for eons is to skimp and serve less ingredients, but charge forever higher prices – and profits – the dirty bastards who continue to pile in their $$$! The GST saga will helped nailed these profit-suckers, now that they have to print out their prices with GST - and pay the taxman!
